Three major functions of HPMC in putty powder

HPMC plays three roles in putty powder: water retention, thickening and construction.


a)Thickening: Cellulose can thicken and keep the solution uniform and consistent, and resist sagging.

b) Water retention: Make the putty powder dry slower and assist the reaction of lime and calcium under the action of water.

c)Construction: Cellulose has a lubricating effect, which can make the putty powder have good construction properties.



HPMC does not undergo any chemical reaction and only plays an auxiliary role. 

Putting putty powder on the wall with water is a chemical reaction because new substances are generated.



What is the relationship between the viscosity and temperature of HPMC? What should be paid attention to in practical applications?


The viscosity of HPMC is inversely proportional to the temperature. The viscosity increases as the temperature decreases. 

The viscosity of a certain product we usually refer to is the result of the test of2% aqueous solution at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. 



In practical applications, in areas with large temperature differences between summer and winter, 

it should be noted that it is recommended to use products with relatively low viscosity in winter, 



which is more conducive to construction. 


Otherwise, the viscosity of cellulose will increase when the temperature is low, and the feel will be heavy when scraping. 



Medium viscosity 75000-100000 is mainly used for putty. The reason is good water retention. 

High viscosity: 150000-200000 is mainly used for polystyrene particle insulation mortar powder and glass bead insulation mortar. 

The reason is high viscosity, the mortar is not easy to fall off, will not sag, and the construction is improved.
